⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Mikhail Jirov
Age: 27 (looks 17) - This is an estimation, as his age is not one of the ones given on the website. However, depending on the translation you watch it's mentioned that Yuliy would be about his age now and Yuliy is listed as being 17. Also it's a reasonable guess given how he's shown in flashbacks.
Canon: Sirius the Jaeger
Canon Point: death

Background: Mikhail was born the older of two brothers by several years to Alexei and Sachi Jirov in the village of Dogville. (A name that I'm sure sounds perfectly fine to non-english speakers...) The village is on the island of Sakhalin, which at the time was still somewhat occupied by Japanese, and is inhabited by the Sirius people, a group of werewolves. Mikhail is older than his younger brother Yuliy by practically a decade, and takes it upon himself to keep him safe - earning a scar over his left eye from a bear attack one time while doing so. Not long after this event, their father leaves the village in order to seal away an item their tribe had been protecting - the Ark of Sirius. He doesn't return.

A few years later, the village is attacked by vampires after the Ark. Everyone is killed except for Mikhail and Yuliy, though Mikhail sacrifices himself to let his brother escape. Near death, he's bitten and turned by a high ranking vampire named Yevgraf.

He doesn't see his brother again until ten years later while on a mission in Japan. They were working with Alma Trading Company on a very Frankenstein-esque project and had gained the attention of V Shipping, an organization that included a group of Jaegers (vampire hunters) among their ranks. Yuliy was one of them. He thought his brother dead and had set out on a path of vengeance against those who'd murdered his tribe. The reunion is shocking to him.

Mikhail's first action upon finding his brother had been to shoot at him from afar. Though he'd been ordered to kill all Jaegers on sight he purposefully missed any vitals. He then later approaches his brother and is upfront about their positions as enemies. If Yuliy comes before him as a Jaeger again, they'll have to fight. He encourages his brother to kill him throughout their encounters, but soon realizes Yuliy is too soft-hearted for that. His brother also comes to the realization that vengeance isn't worth it if it means killing Mikhail. The older brother continues to let the younger live, and it becomes more and more clear to the viewer that Mikhail isn't much in cahoots with his fellow vampires at all.

Yevgraf locates the location of the sealed Ark of Sirius and brings Mikhail along since his father was the one who sealed it (and whose spirit still guards it). Mikhail is determined to get the Ark for his own purposes but the item's protections refuse him. When Yevgraf calls him back he refuses to give up his attempt despite how the water sears his limbs. He's forced back to his master against his wishes, at which point he vehemently states that he never considered the other vampire his master at all. He's knocked out for his troubles and Yevgraf turns his attention to Yuliy as an alternative method of getting the Ark.

The reason the vampires want the Ark so badly is because it may offer the key to curing a disease that's begun to infect their kind. It's deadly to them and there's no known remedy. The other option was creating artificial body parts, hence the Frankenstein monster projects, but they hope the Ark will be a far less messy solution. Mikhail sees how the disease affects a vampire first hand. It weakens and will eventually kill them, but it also gives them the ability to ignore the blood pact. Seizing the opportunity, though it would mean his life, he drinks from an infected vampire.

Because of how much he's been acting up, Yevgraf fully controls Mikhail to get him to attack his brother - who'd recently managed to get past his father's seal and secure the Ark. In the struggle Mikhail steals the Ark and passes it off to some other vampires. The two of them continue fighting until the disease takes full hold of him and he's able to break free of the pact. Overcome with emotion, he yells at his brother for freeing the Ark from its seal, saying that Yuliy never should have had to do any of this - that it should all have been his job just as it was his job to look after his little brother. He admits to worrying about Yuliy the entire ten years they were separated. As he becomes weaker, he also has to tell his brother about the disease.

The two of them confront Yevgraf, who's absorbed the Ark into himself but isn't fully capable of controlling its power. Together they're able to defeat him, with Mikhail carrying his brother into an air battle. Mikhail suffers heavy injuries but it's the disease that has the strongest hold on him. They land on top of Yevgraf's zepplin and have a brief tender moment before Mikhail dies in his brother's arms.

Personality: Before he became a vampire, Mikhail was a loving older brother that went out of his way to protect his younger sibling while also teasing him on the regular. After their father leaves, he steps in as a role-model and guidance figure while still keeping that close big brother relationship. He teaches Yuliy to hunt but makes sure to get the kill if his younger brother doesn't succeed so they don't lose a meal.

When we see him later it's as if all of that has gone and been replaced with a stoic vampire, but that facade breaks the more he interacts with his brother. The love is very much still there, and once we learn that we're able to better interpret earlier scenes. He isn't please about having to shoot Yuliy and when they meet on a rooftop later that somewhat creepy smile can be interpreted as genuine happiness that his brother is still alive and fighting.

He's incredibly stubborn, fighting against his master's control and also going off without his brother to try and keep Yuliy safe - trying to handle things on his own like he's still the one responsible for them both. He puts up with the vampires for ten years but hates every minute of it. Any opportunity he gets to ignore commands from one of them he does.

There's a sense of humor buried beneath all the grief that really only gets to come out with his brother nowadays, and rarely then. If he'd had more time with him I'm sure we'd have seen more of it. Otherwise he hasn't had much to be happy about for a decade. Instead he'll slip in the occasional snide comment, often deadpan. (Yevgraf: "How are you feeling?" Mikhail: "The worst. Because I saw your face.") He's casually irreverent to his master in a way that angers other vampires.

He's very self-sacrificing, putting his brother's life above his own multiple times - at the village, with encouraging his brother to kill him, by infecting himself to avoid being controlled. He says straight out that the Ark and the Sirius don't matter to him - only Yuliy does. He hasn't had much of a chance to truly live a life of his own.

Abilities:
VAMPIRE - The vampires of Sirius the Jaeger don't follow much of the mythos that western audiences are used to. They have reflections, they breathe, and they're not weak to things like crosses, garlic, or whatever else is usually associated with the undead. In fact, they don't appear to be undead at all, but rather something of a separate species. They drink the blood of humans (or other vampires) and they don't age (or they age VERY slowly). Their hair can also grow, as we see with Mikhail, since his hair was much shorter when he was turned. There are two different types of vampire - the royals and their slaves. Mikhail is the former. Both can pass as human, though the slaves have a more monstrous natural form and can't go out during the day without special lenses or else they'll die. Royals don't have that issue.

The show mentions special bullets being used against vampires, but they don't go into detail on it. They can be burnt as well as be injured and killed by blades. They don't have any special healing factors and don't regrow lost limbs. Mikhail was once knocked out by a punch to the gut from another vampire.

As a rule, vampires are stronger and have more endurance than humans. They're more agile and can see well in the dark. Royals can also fly unaided and can lengthen their nails drastically to fight with them. Only a royal can turn someone into a vampire, at which point they become bound through a blood pact. Through this, the master can control any vampire they've turned. Normally when any vampire dies they turn to ash. The only exception to this is when they die from the disease, in which case they leave behind a corpse.

SIRIUS - I thought it important to include this set of abilities for potential plot purposes even though Mikhail has lost them as a vampire. He was born a Sirius and that blood has allowed him to remain himself mentally, to the point where he outright rebels against his master and has to often be forcibly controlled into submission.

The Sirius are referred to as werewolves, but over time their interbreeding with humans means they've mostly lost their original bestial forms. (Mikhail's mother was completely human, a Japanese woman.) They can, however, still lose themselves to a beast-like rage. When fighting, the eyes of a Sirius glow bright blue. The angrier they get the stronger they get, with glowing blue vein-like patterns spreading over their skin. In the rare cases that they don't have white hair, their hair will start to turn more and more white as they fight (though this will typically revert back later). A Sirius is stronger and more agile than your typical human and are the sworn enemies of vampires, able to dispatch them with their own claws if necessary. Having a pack, or some sort of emotional support, is important to one of their kind in order to keep the beast in check.

Unlike a vampire, a Sirius heals rapidly - though they can still scar.

Alignment: Thras (fear/bravery). While there are several that could work for him there aren't any alignments he fits as well as this one. He's stubborn, determined, and self-sacrificing though sometimes also overconfident and lacking a healthy amount of fear. He saves all his fear for his little brother.

(On the TDM I'd gone with Peromei, but I decided against that.)

Other: I would like to bring him in still suffering the effects of the disease to some extent. Healing can come in the form of long-term medicine that just hadn't been developed in his world. Its effects can also be influenced by his emotions.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

General Sample:
Mikhail stares at the woman's neck as if it's going to bite him back. He's starving, but he hates offerings like this. There's nothing romantic about the situation. She probably expects him to sink his teeth into her soft flesh, leaving her with some ridiculous sense of euphoria. It's a fantasy to her, and that turns his stomach.

He's not biting her. That could turn her, and he refuses to do that. She'll have to deal with a slightly different feeding method. Maybe she'll still enjoy it. Honestly he doesn't want to think about it that much.

"Hold still." Lengthening one nail, he slices into the skin near her shoulder blade. She lets out a sharp gasp and briefly trembles but then stills again. Blood seeps from the wound, and after retracting the nail he places one thumb along the edge and presses so that it flows more freely. Then he leans in and gently places lips to flesh, sucking the blood as it falls.

If she giggles to her friends about this tomorrow he's never speaking to her again.

Emotion Sample:
"What are you doing? I told you to stay back!" The vampire hovers in the air just off the cliffside, glaring in frustration at his companion. He hadn't given any other directions aside from staying back, but he'd assumed (wrongly, it seems) that this would be enough. He isn't carrying the other man into battle, and if he tries to do something stupid like jump off the side and force his hand - well, he hopes it doesn't come to that. He might be a bloodsucker, but he isn't cold hearted enough to let them fall to their doom out of spite. Hopefully his companion won't have the guts to do that.

He should leave now, fly away fast enough that he can't be called back. Stopping in the first place was a bad idea.

"Turn around and tell them what happened. I'll be fine." There are no guarantees on that last part, but he's determined regardless. As he floats backwards, a strong gust of wind comes from nowhere and knocks his friend back off their feet. He doesn't hesitate - taking the moment they're thrown off balance to zip away from the ledge with a burst of speed.

Questions: None at the moment!
